Famous Brands Selects MICROS RES and mymicros.net for Its Wimpy Operation

MICROS Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality and retail industries, is pleased to announce that it has been approved as one of only two technology suppliers for Wimpy, the well-loved restaurant and original British burger chain owned by Famous Brands.

The MICROS Restaurant Enterprise Series (RES) and mymicros.net solutions will be available to all Wimpy franchisees, who will benefit from a streamlined, integrated point-of-sale solution that provides greater control, improved security and profitability, and increased efficiency.

MICROS RES and mymicros.net offer Wimpy a unique series of integrated applications that includes Electronic Point-of-Sale, Enterprise Office, Restaurant Operations, and Corporate Applications that will help to build success through every level of their business, from assuring each customer gets the right order on time to controlling prices, menus, and profits.

‘We require a technology solution that improves efficiencies in our back office operations, as well as efficiencies in the front of house, such as improving the service that we provide to our customers,’ stated Willie and Ilze Opperman, owners of a Wimpy franchisee in Kings Lynn, which recently selected MICROS. ‘With MICROS RES, I have better control of my ordering and inventory, tighter security, and the ability to process management information quickly and easily. With mymicros.net, I can see near real-time data, and drill down into this information to provide me the necessary reports for analysis.’

Benefiting from the successful initial installation at the King’s Lynn location, the Opperman’s recently installed MICROS RES and mymicros.net at their second Wimpy restaurant in Spalding, showcasing the new Wimpy global corporate identity. Adding to the successful solution at King’s Lynn, the Spalding location is also using MICROS’s Kitchen Display System (KDS), an intuitive graphical software application designed to increase efficiency and improve guest service through better kitchen coordination.

‘We are committed to offering our community the very best technology solutions, and we are confident that MICROS will provide many benefits and demonstrate a tangible return on investment,’ stated Anton Monstert, Commercial Manager, Wimpy UK.

Frank Ward, Senior Vice President, Business Development EAME, commented, ‘We are delighted that Famous Brands has selected MICROS as an approved IT supplier for its Wimpy brand, and we look forward to providing its stores with world-leading, fully integrated POS solutions.’

About Famous Brands
• The Wimpy brand was born out of the Lyons tea rooms. The first tea room opened in Piccadilly in 1894 and the first Corner House in 1909. The company expanded to become an important part of the British High street
• In 1954 Lyons opened a new restaurant format ‘Wimpy’ Bars. The format was a huge success and had soon outstripped Lyons as the predominant brand
• By the early 1970s the business had expanded to over a thousand restaurants in 23 countries
• In 1989 many of the Wimpy restaurants across the UK were rebranded as Burger King. The remaining Wimpy restaurants were mostly differentiated by offering table service
• Earlier in 2007, Famous Brands Limited – which own the Wimpy brand in South Africa representing a network in excess of 450 franchised restaurants – purchased the UK business
