Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii Expands Non-Traditional Franchise Footprint Across U.S.
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has expanded its non-traditional franchise portfolio to six locations in the United States. These locations include trailers, food trucks, coffee kiosks, carts and counters, drive-thru only kiosks, and shops inside venues such as airports, sporting arenas, grocery stores, and shopping malls. The company’s flagship presence is at a 19,000-square-foot travel plaza off I-94 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, developed in partnership with multi-unit operator Paul Bhardwaj of Golden Oil.
The non-traditional model enables the brand to enter high-traffic, captive-audience real estate without requiring the construction of a standalone café. This strategy is part of Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii’s national expansion, running alongside traditional café development, particularly on the East Coast. In Florida, the company operates seven locations.
AWA Investments, the brand’s largest investor and a multi-unit operator with stores from Nashville through the Florida Panhandle, has committed to a 10-unit agreement covering the Gulf Coast of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. A new café in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is scheduled to open in early summer.
The company anticipates 25 to 30 new store openings this year, driven by multi-unit partnerships and non-traditional growth. Its traditional café pipeline and expanding non-traditional unit count are designed to support development across the Southeast and the East Coast corridor.
Franchisees are offered a business model with technology and development support. The total investment range for franchisees is $524,200 to $990,500, with non-traditional shops ranging from $186,700 to $915,500. As a member of the International Franchise Association VetFran program, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii offers a $10,000 discount on the initial franchise fee for veteran franchisees.
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has more than 45 U.S. franchise locations and over 100 additional shops in various stages of development. The company’s products are available in franchise stores and online, with plans to expand into grocery, hospitality, and specialty retail channels.
