KBP Brands Acquires 78 SONIC Drive-In Locations in Five States
KBP Brands has acquired 78 SONIC drive-in restaurants previously owned and operated by SONIC, part of the Inspire Brands portfolio. The new locations are in Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, bringing KBP Brands’ total SONIC footprint to 164 locations across eight states.
This is KBP Brands’ second SONIC purchase in less than 2 years, making the company the fourth-largest franchisee in the SONIC system. KBP Brands has partnered with Inspire Brands since adding Arby’s to its restaurant portfolio in 2021.
The acquisition adds 1,600 employees to KBP Brands. Mark Everett, executive vice president of KBP, will continue to lead the company’s Drive-In business in partnership with chief operating officer Matt Hansen.
SONIC and its menu were first added to the KBP portfolio in August 2024. KBP Brands’ relationship with Inspire Brands includes a five-year partnership and previous acquisitions involving other brands in the Inspire portfolio.
KBP Brands operates more than 1,100 KFC, Taco Bell, Arby’s, and SONIC restaurants across 32 states. SONIC, part of the Inspire Brands family of restaurants, has more than 3,400 locations in 47 states.
