Guthrie’s Appoints Tom Carr As President and CEO
Guthrie’s has named Tom Carr as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Carr assumes the role from Joe Kelly Guthrie, a co-owner and founding family member.
Carr joins Guthrie’s following a tenure at Chicken Salad Chick, where he served as Chief Marketing Officer. During his time there, the company expanded from 50 to 325 locations across 23 states. Carr has also held senior marketing positions at Discovery Networks, Spanx, Nike, and Turner Broadcasting, and has managed advertising for Coca-Cola and Little Caesars.
Guthrie’s, founded in Haleyville, Alabama, operates more than 70 locations across 12 states. The company has stated plans for continued expansion, with growth initiatives set for 2026.
Carr’s appointment follows Guthrie’s 60th anniversary, which was celebrated last year. The leadership change is part of the company’s strategy to support its expansion plans and ongoing development of its franchise network.
No additional executive appointments or structural changes were announced in connection with Carr’s appointment. The company has not disclosed further details regarding specific upcoming locations or markets targeted for expansion.
Carr was recognized as a 2025 Top CMO by Fast Casual and was listed among Entrepreneur’s Top 50 Game Changer CMOs. He is a graduate of Princeton University.
Guthrie’s has not provided a timeline for further announcements related to its expansion plans. The company continues to operate its existing locations and is preparing for future growth under Carr’s leadership.
