Fast-food chain Starbird has signed its first franchise development agreement with Whiplash Holdings, marking its maiden expansion outside of California. As part of the deal, seven new Starbird locations will be established in the Greater Denver area, with the first one expected to open by mid-2025.
Since franchising, Starbird has been seeking partners to help deliver a unique dining experience. With an Average Unit Volume (AUV) of $4.1 million, Starbird has demonstrated its distinctive appeal in the fast-food market. Whiplash Holdings, supported by a team with extensive experience in the restaurant and hospitality sectors, plans to actively engage with the Denver community, including involvement with local organizations like the Denver Children’s Foundation.
Starbird is known for its hand-crafted crispy chicken, bold flavors, and chef-driven innovation. The brand uses antibiotic-free chicken that is always fresh and never frozen. Each piece is individually hand-breaded in a gluten-free mix of flour and spices and is accompanied by nine homemade dipping sauces.
To facilitate this expansion and ongoing franchise development, Starbird recently appointed Brian Carmichall as the VP of Business Development. Carmichall, with his vast expertise in franchise development and operations from brands like Dunkin’ and El Pollo Loco, will help Starbird expand its presence in Colorado and other regions. Starbird also plans to establish franchise deals in major U.S. markets, including Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Seattle, San Diego, and Chicago.
Starbird is seeking experienced multi-unit operators interested in Area Development commitments of five stores over three years in key U.S. markets, including California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Florida. Qualified candidates should have restaurant and business experience, a minimum net worth of $3 million, and at least $1 million in liquid capital. The investment ranges from $1,138,074 to $1,588,963 for traditional and non-traditional units.
